Dr. Mena was born in Luxor, in Upper Egypt. It is considered one of the most famous places in the world and affected him greatly. Dr. Mena came from a family that worked in the human medical field for three generations. He is the eldest son of four. All four brothers are Veterinarians or Human Doctors. Dr. Mena's father was a famous, very well-respected human medical Doctor, patients would travel from out of state to see him. Dr. Mena planned on continuing his father's legend to be the fourth generation in the medical field.

When Dr. Mena was a teenager, he loved to go and sit in the ancient Egyptian temples every day after school, he was fascinated with how his ancestors built these huge monuments, temples, and pyramids. The history of his ancestors and their passion for invention and building led to Dr. Mena to want to go into Egyptology or Architecture. He was preparing for his major in high school to follow that dream. Yet, one day Dr. Mena found a young falcon shot down by a bullet in his backyard, the falcon had a broken wing. His father did his best to treat him as a human doctor, at this time in Egypt there were not any Veterinarians treating small animals, they were primarily farm animals and equine doctors. Dr. Mena loved that baby falcon, it was his best friend. He was interested in learning the sport of falconry. Then unfortunately the falcon became sick, and his dad could not help the young bird this time. This was the defining moment in his life when Dr. Mena decided to continue with the family tradition and go into the medical field to become a veterinarian.

Dr. Mena graduated from Assuit University in 2000. He received his postgraduate master's degree in Zoonotic diseases and Parasitology. At that time, he was working on dairy farms. Dr. Mena moved to the US in 2006. In 2013 finished his evaluation with the AVMA to be a fully licensed veterinarian in the US. Dr. Mena performed his CPE at Tufts University, Tufts holds the highest ranking of veterinary colleges in the US. During the time Dr. Mena was obtaining his licensure to practice in the US he volunteered at the Genessee County Humane Society in the spay and neuter clinic. In mid-2013 Dr Mena started working full time as a licensed veterinarian in the US. Dr. Mena practiced in the low cost spay and neuter community for a year.

After that, Dr. Mena started seeking other ventures in veterinary medicine. He has worked in the Tri-county area here in Michigan. Dr. Mena moved to Canada where he started in emergency medicine in Windsor from 2016 to 2023. Dr. Mena purchased Pets Ahoy Animal Hospital from Dr. Gloria Williams, who retired after 45 years as a practicing veterinarian. Dr. Mena feels very fortunate for the opportunity to take over a well-established practice. Dr. Mena is an American/Canadian, he lives in the greater Winsor area. Dr. Mena is married to his sweetheart for 18 years. They have one son Michael who is 9 years old. Dr. Mena's passion in veterinary medicine is internal medicine, soft tissue surgeries, and emergency.

In Dr. Mena's off-time he enjoys reading, gardening, swimming, and most of all spending time with his family.

Dr. Berk works as our part time relief veterinarian. She is an awesome diagnostician, pets love her as well as their human owners. We are excited & honored she chose our practice to work as a relief veterinarian.
